The September 25 patch says Pet Pen controller hints were hidden when using keyboard and mouse. That confirms the system name, but the patch note alone does not explain how to build, unlock or equip a pen.

Why “unlocked” may still mean “not equipped”

1. Read the exact pet message. Distinguish a discovery or unlock notice from ownership, an equipped companion and a Pet Pen requirement.
2. Check the relevant NPC's quest state. The official character page uses Myrll; Myrill appears in some player references. Her connection to the pet flow here comes from player reports, so confirm the quest in your own journal.
3. Talk to the recruited NPC at your Sanctum. Look for a shop or pet-related interaction after the quest and first discovery. The player thread says the shop may be easy to miss.
4. Check whether the discovered pet must be obtained separately. A player describes buying unlocked pets from that shop. Do not assume the discovery itself places one in your active slot.
5. Recheck the Pet Pen and companion UI. If the pen is still missing, confirm the quest, recruitment and purchase steps before assuming a construction menu bug. Interface wording may differ between keyboard and controller, and 0.107.7779 specifically changed controller hints on keyboard and mouse.

If the same message remains after those checks, record the game version, quest state, pet name and the exact screen where equip fails. That makes a bug report more useful than simply saying the pet is unlocked.

The note concerns controller hints appearing on keyboard and mouse, so a mismatched prompt in an older version should not be treated as a gameplay requirement. Inspect the current interaction prompts on your input device.
