The short answer
Two creator recordings show different ways to use Hail of Arrows with Poison. One Elf Shadow route leaves a poison pool and keeps stacks active; a Human ranged route follows Hail of Arrows with basic attacks and an Aimed Shot that consumes Poison for burst. They are examples to test, not one proven best build or a single combined rotation.
The videos are player examples recorded before this page's September 26 review. Game balance can change during Early Access. The current patch note used here is 0.107.7779; every exact balance value below is tied to that version. Compare other build directions and the skill-tree method before spending points.
Choose the loop before the stats
| Creator example | What the recording supports | What remains open |
|---|---|---|
| Elf Shadow poison-pool archer | Hail of Arrows leads into a poison pool and continued Poison stacking | Whether the creator's Strength choice outperforms an Agility Elf Shadow at equal gear |
| Human ranged Poison burst | Hail of Arrows, basic-attack buffing and Aimed Shot consumption form the shown sequence | Exact class or Archetype, skill modifiers and relative boss performance |
Neither clip is a controlled comparison at matching gear, difficulty, enemy and patch. Both are useful as combat-loop evidence, rather than a damage ranking.

These chapter links seek within the embedded videos. Read the displayed skill names and modifiers in your own current game build before trying to reproduce either setup.
Route A: Elf Shadow poison pool and bow
At 01:05–02:35, MediocreDad-G shows Hail of Arrows → poison pool → continued Poison stacking. The useful transferable idea is to keep targets in the area long enough for repeated application, then choose a payoff only after the target actually has Poison. The pool depends on the demonstrated setup; Hail of Arrows by name alone does not guarantee that every character creates the same effect.
The creator argues for Strength. Other Elf Shadow examples lean toward Agility for their own weapon and resource trade-offs. These are conflicting player allocations, not proof that one stat wins for every Poison archer. Compare the current tooltip's scaling, your bow's requirements, attack cadence and the Poison Codex entry on the same character. The Elf Shadow bleed guide explains why a stat screen from another loop should not be copied wholesale.

At 00:00–01:12, LightItUpDan demonstrates Hail of Arrows → basic attacks that build the shown buff → Aimed Shot consuming Poison. That creates a different decision from maintaining a pool: wait for the relevant status and buff, then spend them in the shot's attack window. Watch the on-screen counters and current tooltip before deciding how long to wait.
The footage establishes a Human ranged example. It does not establish the character's exact class or Archetype to the standard needed for a class-specific recommendation, so this guide does not assign one. If your own tree does not expose the same modifier or weapon, treat the clip as an interaction example, not a click-by-click path.

These five names are often grouped under “Poison build,” but they do not have the same evidence or ownership. The unaffiliated database is a discovery aid; its listed costs, coefficients and locations are not official 0.107.7779 balance data. None of these five skills is proven necessary for either filmed route.
| Skill | Source and possible role | What to verify in game |
|---|---|---|
| Toxic Slice | Unaffiliated spellbook/data listings point to a Poison-applying melee hit | Whether your character can learn the book and whether a melee slot helps either ranged loop |
| Contagion | Unaffiliated Shadow-tree listing describes Poison spread in an area | Class access, current zone behavior, resource cost and modifier exclusivity |
| Chrono Spike | Unaffiliated Elf-tree listing describes a payoff for damage-over-time stacks | Elf access, which statuses it advances, and whether spending them improves this encounter |
| Poison Mist | Unaffiliated spellbook listings suggest another area Poison source | Current recipe, learning requirement and whether it duplicates the pool setup |
| Infectious Swarm | Unaffiliated spell listing describes a channeled Decay/Poison area | Actual acquisition and whether channel time fits your defense and resource budget |
A claim that 5 Poison yields 5 Concentration over 5 seconds has only a single player-source lead in the material reviewed. It is unverified, and this guide does not use it as a resource rule. Measure Concentration before and after the interaction in the current build before designing a rotation around it.
Patch 0.107.7779 and Poison damage
The official 0.107.7779 notes increased the coefficients of Decay Burst keystone variants: Plague Marksmanship 0.61 → 1.59, Infectious Cleaver 0.61 → 3.08, and Temporal Rot 0.61 → 4.02. These are named keystone changes, not proof that Poison damage itself or either creator route became the strongest. Check that your chosen tree actually uses a matching keystone.
Official patch 0.107.7779 ↗Keep three numbers separate when testing: the initial hit, the Poison damage-over-time effect, and any consuming or keystone burst. A player discussion refers to the in-game Codex for Poison scaling, but the developer response there does not verify a universal formula. Record the game version, target, current status stacks and equipped modifiers before comparing stats.
Community discussion — damage-over-time scaling ↗Poison build FAQ
Which Poison route should I start with?
Choose the behavior you want to test: persistent area stacking on an Elf Shadow, or a Human ranged setup-and-spend sequence. Start with the skills you can actually learn and sustain. Neither recording establishes a universal best route.
Should an Elf Poison archer invest in Strength or Agility?
The Elf creator advocates Strength; other Elf Shadow player examples favor Agility for different goals. Test both against the current tooltip and similar encounters before committing to a ranking. Your spell requirements, bow and passive choices may change the answer.
Is the Human example a specific class build?
The reviewed footage supports calling it a Human ranged Poison sequence. Its exact class and Archetype are left open here until a clear character or tree capture confirms them.
Do I need all five skills in the table?
No. The table is a check list of possible tools from unaffiliated data, not a five-skill loadout. Confirm current access, costs and modifier choices first. For status-builder and spender planning, see the skill-tree guide.
Does the Decay Burst buff prove Poison is now best?
No. Patch 0.107.7779 confirms those keystone coefficients only. A comparison would need equivalent current builds, gear, enemies and difficulty.
For a separate Bleed route, continue to Elf Shadow Convergence or Minotaur Brawler.
